KUALA LUMPUR: A 14-year-old teenage girl is the 88th victim of Influenza A(H1N1) in Malaysia.
Director-general of Health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said the latest death involved a teenage girl from Perak who was not in the risk group.
“Medical reports and clinical tests confirmed that the death was due to “severe bilateral pneumonia” caused by the Influenza A (H1N1) virus infection,” he said in a statement here Friday.
He added that four Influenza Like Illness (ILI) cluster cases were reported in four places over the last 24 hours.
The four cases were from Lake Kenyir Resort and Spa (Terengganu) which involved five people, Jalan Cenderamata, Kg Kurnia, Kebun Teh, Johor (2 people), Felda Lui Muda in Jempol, Negri Sembilan (five people) and Jalan TU 61 Taman Tasik Utama Air Keroh, Malacca (six people).
Dr Ismail said the 48 new cases has increased the total number of Influenza A (H1N1) cases to 14,912 so far.
From the 532 ILI cases treated in hospitals throughout the country, 76 (14.3 per cent) have been confirmed as A (H1N1) positive.
